ST PATRICKS DAY cocktails! We bet you hadn’t thought of them!

While the holiday of St. Patrick’s Day has a long tradition in Irish culture, let’s face it: it’s now mostly seen as an excuse to paint things green, make green things and drink a lot of Guinness. On that last point, we’ve got your back, and we’ve got a variety of St. Patrick’s Day cocktails for those of you who think there’s a limit to how much green beer one can drink.

The Fizzy Tarté Cocktails

SHAMROCK SOUR

All you need is… 

  • 2 tablespoons lime juice

  • ½ tablespoon lemon juice

  • ¼ cup simple syrup

  • 2 ounces Irish whiskey (you can choose your favourite whiskey)

  • 1 tiny drop of green food colouring

  • Lime wedges for garnish

 

How to make it… 

  1. Combine ingredients and shake well; strain over ice.

  2. Garnish with a lime wedge and a shamrock stirrer.

BLACK VELVET

All you need is… 

  • 8oz Guinness Stout

  • 1 bottle of Prosecco or Champagne

How to make it… 

1. Pour the Guinness into a clean champagne flute about halfway.

2.Top off the glass with Prosecco or Champagne being careful that there is no overspill.

Irish Coffee

All you need is…

  • 450 ml hot water

  • 2 tsp. light brown sugar

  • 240 ml brewed coffee

  • 60 ml Irish whiskey (such as Jameson)

  • 120 ml double cream for topping

  • Chocolate shavings, for garnish

(Whilst freshly squeezed is recommended, feel free to use whichever fresh orange juice you like!)

How to make it… 

  1. Fill two mugs with hot water and let sit 2 minutes.

  2. Pour out water and add 1 tsp. light brown sugar to each mug.

  3. Pour over hot coffee and stir to dissolve sugar,

  4. hen pour in whiskey.

  5. In a separate bowl with an electric mixer or by hand, whisk cream until soft peaks form. Cream should be thick but still pourable.

  6. Top coffee with cream by gently pouring over the back of a warm spoon to form a thick layer on top of coffee.

  7. Garnish with chocolate shavings.
