This week for VE Day we are making the British Classic cocktail an Espresso Martini. This drink was supposedly created in the early 1980’s when Dick Bradsel apparently was asked by a famous model for a drink that would “wake me up”. And from that and an espresso machine plus some alcohol, the drink was born. When we make our Espresso Martini we use, Vodka, a Coffee Liqueur such as Kahlua, Sugar syrup and a nice strong shot of coffee.

Watch how we make our Classic Espresso Martini

You will need:

  1. 3 Coffee beans
  2. 35ml Vodka
  3. 25ml Coffee Liqueur
  4. 10ml Sugar syrup
  5. 25ml Coffee

How to:

  1. Fill a small glass with ice, and place in a freezer to chill.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, combine Vodka, Kahlua, sugar syrup and a 50ml shot of coffee and add a few ice cubes, and shake well.
  3. Strain your mixed cocktail into a glass and garnish with 3 coffee beans.

How to make the Sugar Syrup

1:1 of sugar & hot water – eg. (100ml hot water/100g sugar) Then leave to cool.

PS. No shaker? – You can use a water bottle or jar to mix the ingredients together instead. Note: Be careful when opening as coffee expands during shaking to give you the signature foam.
