Our Luxury Afternoon Tea for 2 includes:

8 luxurious pâtisserie
2 savoury bites
2 warm locally-made scones
Artisan crisps
8 sandwiches with a selection of fillings
Served with a pot of tea or coffee beverage of your choice, and 1 glass of rosé prosecco per person.

Vouchers: If you have a voucher please call us Monday – Friday, 11am – 4pmon 01539 443773 to book.

Weekend bookings: Whilst we do accept walk-in bookings, we strongly recommend booking your afternoon teas
on both weekdays & weekends due to the popularity of the venue.

Children: All children under 18 are welcome on the terrace until 7 pm.
Although our terrace is not bookable, we will do our best to accommodate you.

Got a dog? Dogs are very welcome on the outside terrace until 7pm, however, this area is not bookable.

The History of Afternoon Tea

Afternoon Tea wasn’t invented in the 11th Century but came about because of Anna Russell.
The 7th Duchess of Bedford would become hungry around four o’clock in the afternoon. The evening meal in her household
was served around at eight o’clock. Thus leaving a long period of time between lunch and dinner. The Duchess
asked that a tray of tea, bread and butter and cake be brought to her room during the late afternoon. This became a habit of
hers and she began inviting friends to join her.

‘Tearooms’ were all the rage in the late 19th century. Quickly becoming THE place for meeting friends… just like
The Fizzy Tarté! However, they were also considered one of the few respectable places for women to meet
without a chaperone. Because of this, the out-of-home afternoon tea took off so quickly. Soon enough ‘tea dances’ were
being hosted at the most expensive hotels in the area.
